Was Eve (Hawa) Literally Created From Adam's Rib?

The Qur'an does not mention the fable of Eve being created from Adam's left rib. Rather, it says, as Mawlana Hazir Imam has mentioned on multiple occasions, that men and women are created from a single Soul. 

Qadi Nu'man, in his Asâs al-Ta'wïl (p. 58-59), provides the esoteric interpretation of the popular story of Eve being created from Adam's left rib as meaning that Adam's supreme hujjat (high ranking member of the Da'wa) was from amongst the 12 hujjats with Adam, and that Eve, represents or signifies the esoteric or batin of the faith. The human rib cage consists of 24 ribs (12 on each side), and in the historical Isma'ili da'wah structure there were 12 hujjats of the day and 12 hujjats of the night.
